The goal of the fellowship is to offer pharmacists the opportunity to

  • Develop and improve medical communication skills

  • Learn about careers in medical writing

  • During the fellowship, the pharmacist will

  • Gain experience with different types of projects

  • Study textbooks on medical writing

  • Learn the American Medical Association's style

  • Write and revise at least 12 projects

  • Receive intensive feedback including both macroediting and microediting

  • Work with a pharmacy student on a medical writing clerkship

  • Attend the American Medical Writers Association annual conference

  • Participate in local meetings such as those designed to critique published

  •             manuscripts from a writer's perspective

  • Develop a project suitable for inclusion in a portfolio

  • The fellowship candidate must have

  • A pharmacy degree, either bachelor of science or doctor of pharmacy

  • At least 3 years of work experience as a pharmacist

  • Excellent computer skills, especially word processing

  • Interest in medical writing as a potential career

  • Ability to work independently

  • Read comments from a previous fellow
