This textbook was originally developed for pharmacy students, but it is gaining popularity among other health care students and practitioners. It provides an excellent overview of many therapeutic categories, especially if you need more information on drug therapy than can be found in an internal medicine text.

Goodman LS, Limbird LE, Milinoff PB et al, eds. Goodman and Gilman's: The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics. This classic textbook is losing popularity, but I still buy each new edition.

Internal Medicine Text - It’s difficult to choose between the most popular texts, Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine and Cecil Textbook of Medicine , because both are excellent. They are available as single- and two-volume hardcover books, handbooks, and other convenient options such as an online version. Both texts are published every 3 to 4 years but in different cycles, so you can select the one with the most current copyright date.

Medical Dictionary - Every medical writer needs a medical dictionary, regardless of whether it is a traditional book with thumb indexing or an electronic version with spellchecker. My personal favorites are Dorland’s Medical Dictionary and Stedman’s Medical Dictionary. Taber’s Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary is also popular and more affordable.
